Week 12 : Mini Links : Horseshoe Bend, Arizona

Last year, when we were deciding where to go in April for our holiday, I brainstormed with KW about doing the Arizona – Utah – Colorado route. Eventually we decided to leave it for another trip when we have more time for this route.

So I was very happy to see these pictures from Lucy, and they blew me away – I will make this trip one day and boy, will it be worth it.

“Called a mini Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend in Arizona is a perfect meandering arc of the Colorado River that has cut its way down through the sandstone over million of years. Located not far from the town of Page, a dusty roadside path leads you uphill through the sand and down the other side.” (ontheluce.com/2013/05/27/in-pictures-peering-over-the-edge-of-horseshoe-bend/)

And this concludes the weekly Friday mini links, I hope you have enjoyed this. I learnt about how French fries are made, how it is possible to take great photos with my iPhone and also the dogsled expedition!

  1. Thanks for the mention – hope you do get to make the trip sometime soon!

  2. If you’re heading to the southwestern US I would suggest a trip to southern Arizona and taking a route from Chiricahua National Monument down to Bisbee to Tombstone (great sites for classic Old West, US).
But if you’re heading to the Grand Canyon you can’t miss Flagstaff πŸ™‚

    1. wow thank you for the tip! if we are going there, i will be sure to ask you for more recommendations!!

      1. Yeah feel free! I lived there for a dozen years, so can offer a few more suggestions…

        1. Thank you so much!
We are actually brainstorming where to go for our december holidays – is it super hot in Arizona if we do this route in Dec? Or when do you think is the best time..

          1. Oh no, that would probably be a great time to head to southern AZ. Should be REALLY nice down there. Spring-type weather.

But if you head north to Flagstaff or the Grand Canyon then, bring your snow boots πŸ™‚

          2. Ok we shall think of that route too… i am really keen to go to that area.
We are thinking of New Orleans too.

          3. New Orleans would definitely be fun too πŸ™‚ And much nicer in December than the crazy humidity in say…July. Ugh!

          4. ok i need to do lots of research before we decide where then.. was thinking of coupling New Orleans with NYC but might be too far off?
