Week 9: Mini Links: Top 10 Fastest Roller Coaster Rides in The World

How many of you out there love roller coasters? I used to like them a lot when I was in my teens, somehow as I grew older, I freaked out everytime I sat on one and I can’t bring myself to laugh or smile during the ride. I look constipated and tense throughout the whole ride these days so I barely enjoy them anymore.

The feeling of being thrown all the way down makes me feel helpless and I guess that is the lure of the roller coaster. My husband and sister loves them though and they had a splendid time in December when we went to Busch Gardens at Tampa. They sat each ride at least twice and screamed and laughed all the way through.

If you are a big fan of roller coasters, how many of these rides have you conquered?

  1. I’ve ridden three of them — Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, and Kingda Ka. Trusting that Phantom’s Revenge is in Kennywood I’m set to ride that come July.

    1. Wow which was the best to you? You are so lucky! And an speed junkie, I suppose.

      1. I’d rate Millennium Force as the best of these three. Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster have the fun of speed and altitude, certainly, but they’re also just about long enough to hold your breath through, and as a ride they don’t do anything besides go up and then down.

Millennium Force offers a real ride, with the chance to see the scenery whirling past you, and a couple of slick near-inversions. And it’s gotten better since Cedar Point put in the dinosaur animatronics, since the roller coaster goes over and around them. Going quite fast, and tipping sideways, and seeing a tyrannosaurus rex over your right shoulder? That’s delightful is what it is.

I’m not sure that I’m actually a speed junkie, but my Dearly Beloved is a roller coaster enthusiast and so I’ve taken very happily up the hobby. It’s quite fun going to parks, and new parks, and finding new rides.

Sadly, our first roller coasters together were on Casino Pier — the second one we’d ever ridden was the one that fell into the sea, in that famous image of Superstorm Sandy’s damage to the Jersey shore, and the first one’s been disassembled for possible reassembly later if it appears structurally sound — and those are the ones that’d be our favorites. They’re not fast at all, or high, but that’s not what’s needed to be a favorite ride. (Worse, an outstanding dark ride, and a fine indoor scrambler, were also destroyed.)

        1. Wow you are so lucky to have sat them! I can imagine the adrenline! Just looking at them makes me nervous and I get very quiet… I cant even stand the Viking these days.. We went to Busch Gardens in December and that was great! And we ate KFC later… which was memorable as well.

Damn! I want to try them all!

    1. Yes, you must be excited to try the 1st one. Just looking at it scares me.
