Highlights from Vancouver

We were in Vancouver in 2011 in April, after Seattle and it was wonderful.

Vancouver was voted twice as the #1 city to live in. Imagine that! They must be doing something right. It is an international city with world-class restaurants and we had a really good italian dinner there as well. It is dog friendly too!

Our hotel ‘L’Hermitage Hotel Vancouver’ even has a dog mascot.

The hotel’s website says this – If you are planning to bring your Pet to the  property, kindly let us know his or her breed and name and we will ensure a  warm welcome. How sweet. We saw many couples with their dogs in the hotel. We remember being in San Francisco years ago and we saw many shoppers with dogs in GAP, we asked the sales staff what happens if the dog pees. She smiled and said they will clean it up. How dog-friendly. There were water bowls everywhere along the shops too..IMG_4440

Granville Island

This is an island in the middle of the city, amazing right?

We walked from the hotel after breakfast. Took an aquabus from the dock and it is a quick boat ride over to Granville Island. Really snappy and easy. We went to the Farmers Market & into many of the little shops on the island.

Gastown

We came here on a rainy day, had lunch and walked around. Vancouver is famous for their maple syrup. The waffles were simple yet delicious with the syrup.

We had a great Italian dinner at one of the restaurants recommended by the hotel but the name escapes me. The best octopus carpaccio ever.

Simple, fresh with amazing flavours!

Vancouver has certainly earned the title of #1 city, in our hearts.

  1. Maple Syrup is well known in Canada and is sold everywhere, especially in tourist shops. However I wouldn’t single out Vancouver itself being famous for it’s maple syrup since none is made here. It’s mostly made in Quebec and some parts of Ontario.

    1. Thank you Nat! That is great information.

  2. Have only been to Vancouver once in the summer and it was vibrant. Spent Canada Day in Gastown I believe! Have to go back!

    1. Granville Island is great, you can visit Whistler too. It is great, had one of the best trips of my life there. And the best ramen.

  3. Envy from me, envious, that’s what I am. 🙂

    1. HI
Thank you for reading and visiting my blog – the pastures are always greener on the other side. 🙂

  4. What you’re feeling is envy seeping through the blogosphere. Beautiful.
